It comprises of a coil of insulated iron wire of about 5 ohm
resistance wound non-inductively on an insulating former
and connected to thick copper wires fitted with terminals.
The coil rs enclosed in a glass test tube 150 x 25mm which
contains paraffin oil. The hole in the stopper is drilled for
thermometer.

Kinetic Theory Model   (HT-1570)

This model is used to demonstrate various aspects of kinetic theory of gases.

It consists of a clear perspex tube 400 mm long x 50 mm outside diameter provided with a freely sliding expanded polystyrene piston and a loose fitting metal cap. The tube is mounted on a wooden box 175 x 175 x 125 mm high containing an agitator piston driven by a motor. Supplied complete with a pack of plastic spheres and four cardboard discs.

A glass U tube, 15 mm dia, with one limb plain 220 mm long and other limb graduated 25 to 35 x 0.2 ml, 120 mm long terminating in a bulb 38 mm diameter, with third limb 185 x 6 mm (L x D) joined at right angles to the plane of the other two, short length of glass tubing mounted in end of wide bore plain limb with rubber bung, a piece of rubber tube and a pinch clip. Supplied with tall form beaker 1000 ml and stirrer. 30 ml mercury is required. Supplied without mercury and without thermometer.

Charles Law Apparatus, Alternate Model   (HT-1573)

This apparatus is used to determine the co-efficient of expansion of a gas at constant pressure. It consists of a glass U-tube with a bulb and tap at the upper end of one limb, the other limb open, enclosed in glass cylindrical jacket. An outlet tube comes out from the bottom of the U-tube, passes through a bung and terminates in a tap. Bung has two holes, one of it is fitted with glass tube, rubber tube and pinch clip. The bulb has a capacity of 7ml and stem beneath is graduated 3 x 0.1 cc allowing for an expansion over a range of 100C. The apparatus clamp-able by a single clamp and only 20 cc of mercury is needed. Supplied without mercury.

Charles Law Kit   (HT-1574)

This kit is used for measuring the thermal expansion of air. It consists of a glass U-tube of 10 mm diameter tubing. The shorter limb is approximately 270 mm long and has a tap near the upper end. The long limb approx. 350 mm long is so shaped that it can take at its end rubber tubing approximately 600 mm long. A scale 200 x 1 mm is secured to the short limb which indicates the height of enclosed air column.

A beaker of sufficient capacity is supplied to immerse the U-tube and scale, upto the level of the tap. A red indicator oil is used to fill the U-tube and reservoir.

Comprises a detachable air thermometer bulb 50mm dia approx. connected to the mercury tube with 0 mark through three way stop cock. Reservoir tube slides on vertical rod along side 50 cm x 1 mm scale. Brass vessel is supported on detachable shelf for immersion of bulb. Whole apparatus is mounted on wooden stand with base able to collect mercury, supplied with pressure tube but without mercury.

Heat of Vapourisation of Liquids Apparatus   (HT-1576)

The apparatus comprises a glass inner boiling vessel approx 55 mm diameter and capacity 80cc fitted with electric heating element of about 7 ohms to give 50 W for heating. Supply of about 24 V D.C. is enough. This element is wound on a glass mount supported on a co-axial system carrying connecting wires for connection to the power supply.

The boiling vessel is surrounded by a spherical glass jacket with a cylindrical upper part to have the perforated hood of boiling chamber and the heater mounts. At the lower end of the outer jacket is 8 mm dia outlet for partially condensed vapour.
