Dual Purpose Ripple Tank

Dual Purpose Ripple Tank   (SW-2533)

The apparatus consists of a framed tray with a plexi glass base and detachable legs. A pair of support rods with clamps is provided which can be attached to the sides of the tank and used to carry the wave generating system. A set of 4 metal barriers (reflectors) is included consisting of a pair of straight barriers 150x25mm, a curved barrier of 215mm chord length x 25mm high and a short, straight barrier of 25x25mm.

The ripples are produced by a small 1.5 to 4.5V D.C. electric motor mounted at the centre of a wooden wave generator bar with a row of holes to mount the spherical dippers supplied. It is recommended that the power supply unit is used as this has been specially designed for use with the ripple tank. It has continuously variable D.C.. output so that the speed of the motor and hence the frequency of the ripples may be varied. One white card sheet may be placed on the floor underneath the tank as a screen to receive the wave pattern shadows. Tank can be used with an overhead projector.

Simple type model, it comprises a wooden board 700 x 90 mm (L x W) on four feet, fitted with two steel wires about 0.3mm x 1m (dia x length). At one end of base there are two 50 N spring balances with hooks and at the other end are two wrest pins.
Supplied complete with three bridges, one large to span both wires and two small bridges for individual wires, two steel wires 0.3 mm dia. x 1m long.

Sonometer Wires: Set of 4 wires 1.5m each   (SW-2539)

comprises a hollow wooden resonance box 120 x 12.5 x 10 cm (L x W x H). Two wooden rules subdivided in mm, between fixed bridges over which wires are stretched. A spring balance 100 x 5 N is fitted on one wire. Tension exerted can thus be measured and also adjustable finely by a wing nut resting against a plate at the aid of the apparatus, second wire passes over a pulley and can be loaded as desired, a third wire is given for comparison and its tension adjustable by a wrest pin.
The wires are made of rustless steel having uniform density. distance between fixed bridges is kept 720 mm. Supplied complete with three movable bridges, a set of four wires 1.5m each. Supplied without weights.

comprising a wooden resonance box of 114cm length, 12.5cm width and 10cm height, with two rules 1 mt. long sub-divided into millimeters. One each brass and steel wire of different dia. attached to fixed bridge and tensioned by line adjustments pegs, two moveable bridges, pulley and fixed screw to enable a third we to be fixed for tensioning by masses. One each additional wire of steel and brass, each 1.5m length and of 22swg.

Melde's Apparatus

Melde's Apparatus   (SW-2541)

This apparatus is an improvement over the conventional apparatus to show the effects of vibrations in a stretched cord and examine the relationship between frequency, tension and density. A thin steel rod is clamped near one end through two 4 mm socket terminals. This rod passes through the centre of a small solenoid and between the poles of a magnet. Adjustable contact points fitted through a second pair of 4 mm socket terminals make alternating connection with an adjustable contact on the rod. The rod has a small hole at one end for the attachment of thread which passes over a pulley mounted on a bench clamp and supports a scale pan, 75 mm diameter. Supplied complete with pulley with clamp and scale pan.

Quincke's Tube   (SW-2542)

Usable for investigation of acoustic wave length and interference phenomenon. It is made from metal tube 18 mm diameter, the fixed limb has an acoustic path length of approx. 750 mm. The adjustable limb may be extended from 750 mm path length to a maximum of 1200 mm and is provided with a cm scale. Metal funnels 75 mm diameter are provided at inlet & outlet. Fitted with three detachable legs.

Kundt's Tube   (SW-2545)

To determine the standing longitudinal waves in column of air and velocity of sound in air. It comprises a glass tube approx 1.2 mtr. length and 34 mm diameter. There is a tightly fitting but adjustable piston on a 390 mm long rod at one end of the glass tube. A loose fitting piston attached to a 1.2 mtr. long sounding rod at the other end of the glass tube. Fitted on a wooden base board.
